Please let Sacramento legislators know how important clean drinking water in the San Joaquin Valley is!
Two bills: SB 844 and SB 845 that would create a fund to fix dilapidated water systems in the valley are stuck in Assembly Appropriations.
These are the new incarnations of SB 623, which BizFed Central Valley board members voted to support.
BizFed CV will be contacting Assembly leaders to let them know we SUPPORT SB 844/SB 845.
Together, these bills create an ongoing fund through taxes levied on fertilizer and livestock operations and a voluntary remittance on urban water sales.
That money, about $140 million annually, will be dedicated to helping small water systems (most in the San Joaquin Valley) with BIG nitrate, arsenic and 1,2,3-TCP problems.
One time funding from bond sources is helpful.
But treating for these contaminants extends for years, decades even. A long-term solution is required and SB 844 and SB 845 help provide that source.
Valley residents deserve clean drinking water!
