Helping WECA members, journey workers, and apprentices navigate California’s turbulent regulatory waters is Richard Markuson’s mission.
At Western Electrical Contractors Association (WECA), Markuson is responsible for government relations at the local, state, and federal levels.
Before joining WECA in 2006, Markuson was Deputy Executive Director of the Consulting Engineers and Land Surveyors of California (CELSOC). He was part of a campaign team that won two state-wide ballot measure campaigns in 1998 and 2000. He was also staff and a committee consultant in the California State Senate and director of MCLE at the California District Attorneys Association (CDAA).
Markuson earned a master’s degree in Political Science from the California State University, Sacramento, as the capstone of his Senate Fellowship. After attending UC Santa Cruz, he received a bachelor’s degree from the CSU, Fullerton. Markuson obtained a certificate in health care management from UC Davis. He was a teaching assistant in the Political Science Department at the California State University, Long Beach.
Markuson is a member of the Sacramento City Fire Department’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and was a Senior Volunteer at the California Highway Patrol, where he served in the Office of the Inspector General.
